Ranking Radiohead Albums

This weekend Radiohead releases a new album.  I think they are the best band of my lifetime with a catalog of songs only the Beatles can rival.  But which album is their best?  Well, that depends on you.  Here's my rankings.

1. Amnesiac: Some albums are simply great.  An album can often have special meaning to you because it reflected something you were feeling in a particular moment of your life.

Sometimes both things happen.  Then you fall in love with a piece of music.  Amnesiac captures the subtle anger and disappointment of a man coming of age in a world doesn't work the way he expected.

It is sad and beautiful at the same time.  It's an album that stands on its own, not in the shadow of something else.

Best Quote:  "I'm a reasonable man, get off my case"

2. In Rainbows: Radiohead perfected their sound on this album.   Listening to these songs makes the world around you shift into something thoughtful, a little sad and ultimately uplifting.

15 steps and Weird Flashes are master pieces.

Best Quote: "You used to be all right.  What happened?  Did the cat get your tongue?  Did your string come undone?"

3. King of Limbs: The evolutionary step from In Ranibows.  Bloom and Seperator are on a par with 15 Steps and Weird Flashes as simply incredible songs with tear inducing crescendos.  This album proves that Radiohead is actually getting better with age.

Best Quote:  "If you think this is over then your wrong"

4.  Kid A: This album is as good as Darkside of the Moon.  The combo punch of Optimistic + In Limbo are best listened to while on a mountain bike or snowboard.

Best quote: "The best you can is good enough"

5. Hail to the Thief: Overall a pretty great album, but not on par with the above four

6. OK Computer: Radiohead transitioning from their forgettable 90's self into the best band of our lifetimes.

7/8.  The Bends/Pablo Honey:  these albums came out when Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Nirvana were revolutionizing rock and roll.  This version of Radiohead sucked when I was in college and these albums are completely forgettable.  I wish the song "Creep" would go away forever.
